About Julie Roberts
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about being a business owner and raising a family, it’s this: Always remain proactively positive!
Many people are surprised when I explain that a core part of being a Servpro franchise owner is dealing with clients who are going through one of the worst days of their lives. They can’t believe that I love the job. But I know customers rely on me and my team to get them through their crises effectively, so I always ensure they feel reassured and confident. Because I make it clear that better times are just around the corner, and that I’ve got a handle on their problems. After 18 years of interacting with customers in this state of mind, I’ve become an expert in many areas, including managerial strategy, interpersonal communication, best hiring practices, and much more.
My husband and I first became Servpro franchise owners way back in 2005. At the time, we took over the management of business activities in two counties in Southeast Kentucky. Those early years were anything but easy. We had to think on our feet and soon learned the ins and outs of disaster recovery without making a disaster of our careers! Luckily, by supporting one another, we got better and better at leading our franchise and setting our sights further afield. Three years later, in 2008, we decided to expand and started another new franchise, which served four counties. Of course, our experiences of already building up a Servpro franchise helped in this instance, but the fact was that our workload doubled overnight! But we never faltered and instead dived in head first. Soon after, both outlets were running efficiently. Then 2020 happened, and the demand for disaster recovery services shot up while becoming much more difficult to achieve. So what did my husband and I do? We expanded and wasted no time in identifying new ways of delivering services that left customers satisfied during an incredibly stressful time.
Prior to Servpro, I had a career in sports marketing. I always had a passion for sports and ended up working for the Tennessee Titans. And staying active is also part of my regime; I do so by running in marathons and having a consistent exercise schedule.
I’ve always been a proud Kentuckian, so I was overjoyed when I got to attend the University of Kentucky itself. This outstanding institution allowed me to gain two world-class degrees: a Bachelor of Marketing and a Master of Business Administration.
There’s also my home life! With my husband and business partner, we are raising two fine boys, and parenting them has taught me a whole lot more about people management. I’m also enthusiastic about horses and anything related to the equine industry.
I’ve also branched into property management. It comes with a whole new set of challenges than disaster recovery, and I’m keenly pivoting my skills to this new avenue of opportunity.
Whether it’s regarding Servpro or my life, I’ve always tackled the life necessities. They are the things that the people around me need and value. That gives me a sense of purpose and the drive to help people.
